Beauty Heroes strikes again! This month, Beauty Heroes is featuring LINNÉ with not one but TWO “hero” products! This box has a $106 value but as usual, members can score it for less than $39! Included in October’s discovery is LINNÉ’s ACTIVATE Body Wash ($48) and PURIFY Face Wash ($58) – a lathering micro-scrub that not only cleans and exfoliates but gifts a tantalizing aromatherapy experience that will leave you wanting more. Read on for my LINNÉ review!
LINNÉ founder, Jenna Levine is an herbalist with a background in permaculture and native plant botany focusing on sourcing native plants. She not only uses native plants that are organic but also grown and cultivated in a way that they are strongest, healthiest and most active. Her line is a personal pinnacle of where her passion for the arts and environmental studies meet. You can read more about Jenna’s story here – it’s super interesting and I loved learning more about her ingredient sourcing. The name LINNÉ, by the way, is inspired by Carl Von Linné, a Swedish botanist and physician who made significant contributions to the classification of botanical species. LINNÉ is also GMO-free, cruelty-free, gluten-free and vegan.
PURIFY Face Wash
Oh my gosh. I can sum up this review in one word: LOVE! I’m constantly on the hunt for a good exfoliator and I have a couple of faves but this one just joined the ranks. So. Good. An exfoliator for me has to be light but effective. The more micro, the better. This way, it’s gentle, effective and doesn’t tear at the skin. Not only is this one the perfect micro-grit, it’s almost soft in nature – like even soft enough to use everyday. This is awesome because exfoliating encourages cell turnover, sloughs off dead skin and keeps skin looking alive and radiant. BUT most of the time exfoliators are too strong to use daily which can cause irritation, redness and even blemishes. So typically, I exfoliate 2-3 times a week at most. UNTIL NOW! This wash/exfoliator is mild enough to encourage cell turnover with daily use.
Okay but the benefits don’t stop there. PURIFY is also an amazing cleanser. If you apply to damp skin, it will help the formula emulsify and you will get a mild lather as you work the product all over your face. (And by the way, it does this using oils! There are no soap agents in this formula. That’s right girl, you heard it here first. No drying soaps!) However, too much water and it wont work (it will just run off) and with too little water it wont lather so you have to find the right balance. What worked best for me is in the shower, I will towel off my face then apply away from the water stream and rinse when ready. Or out of the shower, I will mist with a toner or mist before applying – or wet my finger tips before I start working it in circles.
And one more surprise, it smells AMAZING. Like tea tree, lime and cypress – so beautiful, refreshing and relaxing. You won’t want to wash it off. It’s like spa city.
Some of the star ingredients here are french green and bentonite clay to draw impurities + deposit minerals, anti-inflammatory salts, aloe to balance and hydrate, potato starch for brightening and softening and olive leaf for protecting, softening and toning. $58
ACTIVATE Body Wash
ACTIVATE is also a micro-grit scrub/cleaner but for your body. Again, smells amazing and leaves skin feeling soft. It’s formulated with activated charcoal from sustainable forestry oak and wild harvested volcanic ash to help detox. So because of this, the formula is BLACK! I actually love the color and formula. It’s rich, complex and it works. It doesn’t lather as much as the face wash but it leaves skin feeling so soft. Also, like the face wash, it works better when skin is not too wet so I’ve found the most effective way to use it is to shut off the shower – apply, scrub, do it up – then turn the stream back on to rinse. My only complaint is I don’t have a shower sprayer so when the black wash gets outside the range of my shower head, it’s clean-up time for mama. But don’t fret because this wont stain tiles or towels.
It also has avocado oil to nourish and soften, sea kelp to balances and regenerate and palo santo to deliver anti-inflammatory benefits. And again – the smell is hypnotic!
More On LINNÉ
Okay so this was my first time using LINNÉ and I have to say it was a true PLEASURE. I don’t think I would have had the guts to treat myself to these two products if I were just buying them off the shelf – the price tag is a little high when you consider a body wash or a face wash – especially if you don’t understand or prioritize what you are actually getting. But I can tell you with out a doubt I am so excited and thankful I got the chance to experience these two heroes. PURIFY Face Wash especially – it has totally elevated my skincare routine. And now that I know, I’ve got my eyes all over the LINNÉ SCRUB Face Mask – Oh Santa!
The other thing I wanted to mention is LINNÉ provided us with a list of ingredients, what they are used for, how they are sourced, the benefit provided to the skin and so on. One ingredient that stuck out to me was Dead Sea Salt. The Dead Sea Salt used in the LINNÉ line is “wild-harvested and has an unparalleled concentration of beneficial minerals that aid and prevent multiple skin conditions such as psoriasis, acne, hives and rashes.” Jenna also explains that “sea salt provides immune support, is purifying to the entire system and helps in alkalizing the cells of the body by facilitating excretion of excess acids to maintain an optimal pH. The quality of Dead Sea Salt has been proven to provide therapeutic relief to patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.” And that’s just the benefits of ONE of the ingredients she uses.
Okay so here’s the skinny. Beauty Heroes is a subscription service that delivers clean hair, body and skincare to your door monthly for less than $39/mo. Their standards for clean ingredients are super high and members are always getting a crazy good deal. The past few months have been valued at over $100 each with heavy hitting green beauty brands like Josh Rosebrook, Innersense Organic Beauty, Osmia and more. One month Beauty Heroes sent out Vintners Daughter which retails for $185 – can’t beat that with a bat! It’s one of the best beauty subscriptions around. This month is valued at $106 and it won’t last so get on it!
If you want’ to know more about Beauty Heroes – check out this post I wrote about their service a few months back. It’s one of my faves.
