Back with Boxwalla or should I say BoxWOWZA. Boxwalla did it again with their April box featuring two brands that were both new to me. We are seeing AMLY Botanicals Silver Rich Face Mist and Twelve Beauty’s Ideal Moisture Level Serum. Boxwalla just has a knack for putting together a box that is interesting and performs. Safe to say at this point my love affair with Boxwalla has probably reached stage 5 clinger.
If you are new to Boxwalla, let me fill you in. Boxwalla is a green beauty subscription that’s delivered every two months for 49.95. This month’s beauty box is valued at $125. This is the third box I have had the pleasure of discovering and let me be the first to say, Boxwalla is the yin to my yang. The products they select are always cruelty-free, nontoxic and their deliveries are stuffed with “things that MUST be experienced.” They also have subscriptions for food, books and movies too. Read on to check out what’s in April’s beauty box AND April’s food box.
AMLY Botanicals Silver Rich Face Mist
This face mist is made with silver-rich spring water and blended with organic flowers, native herbs and essential oils. I talked to AMLY Botanical’s about the benefits of using silver and they said,
Silver is known as nature’s powerful antibiotic and eliminates bacterial infections without initiating resistance. It was also praised by Hippocrates, the father of medicine, for its tissue repair and would healing abilities over 2500 years ago. Silver can kill many forms of viruses, fungi and molds and has been used in medieval times to treat battle wounds and infections. AMLY Silver Rich Spring water is high in naturally occurring, bioaccessible silver salts, trace elements and minerals.
This formula is also fortified with moisture-boosting Hylauronic Acid, skin-perfecting Copper Peptides and nourishing plant probiotics. AMLY says copper improves skin’s elasticity, firmness and thickness while reducing wrinkles, hyper pigmentation and photo-damage.
And by the way, each batch takes 8 weeks to make! Floral hydrosols and essential oils are blended into a base of silver-rich water using hydro-distillation which is a slow and gentle process. This process allows the extraction of essences from the delicate parts of the plant/flowers. The plant parts are soaked in a container of water that is then heated. The water and oil are separated using condensation and the distillate obtained possess all the essential parts of the plant.
This mist smells AH Mazing. It goes on super fine – I love the mister pump they chose, it’s super fine delivering the perfect MIST. My skin feels refreshed and slightly taught after applying. This formula is free from parabens, mineral oil, silicon, propylene glycol, synthetic fragrances, sulphates, GMOs, PEGs, TEA, TEA and animal-derived ingredients.
The smell alone will leave you in a wild flower trance. Here are the ingredients:
The ingredients listed from Limonene through Benzyl Benzoate (at the bottom) are all naturally occurring in essential oils. Per EU regs these ingredients are required to be listed out on the label eventhough they have not been added as isolated ingredients.
Twelve Beauty Ideal Moisture Level Serum
My first time trying anything from Twelve Beauty as well! Founder Pedro Catala is a pharmacist and a cosmetologist with a degree in Botany, Science & Technology of Cosmetics and also a PhD in Natural Formulation Technologies. He formulates everything by hand in small batches and he says every Twelve Beauty product contains a special blend of these four powerful antioxidants and nutrients:
- White Genepi: protects skin with antioxidant and radical scavenging properties and acts as an anti-bacterial
- Imperatoria: helps to repair minor cuts and wounds, moisturize, antioxidant and acts as an astringent
- Mallow Flower: soothing, anti-irritant, emollient and moisturizing
- Butterfly Bush: offers protection agains UV and is also antioxidant
This formula is super viscous and truly a serum. It feels refreshing going on – really light and soaks right in – and it has a very faint, barely there floral scent to it. Very easy to use and layer an oil over it without feeling greasy.
Here are the ingredients:
Twelve Beauty also has a comprehensive ingredient glossary on their website which I love!
Pepper With A Chance of Sweet – Boxwalla’s April Food Box
Boxwalla also shared their April food box with me – so fun! This month’s theme is all about discovering pepper all over the world. The April selection includes:
Bija Bhar’s Resilience Turmeric Elixir – a concoction of organic Hawaiian turmeric, ginger, lemon, lemon peel and dehydrated maple syrup. Add your own pepper or cayenne to make the turmeric more bioavailable. Enjoy with hot water to make a tea, add a scoop to smoothies or milk to make a turmeric latte!
Mayana Chocolate’s Mayan Spice Bar – A spicy caramel chocolate bar with a surprise crunch from tortilla chips. This bar gets its heat from Mexican ancho chili. My husband and I loved splitting this big boy!
Ghosted Garlic – Naturally smoked sea salt infused with roasted garlic and ghost pepper from India. Great on everything from potatoes to veggies! This was me and my hubs favorite pick from this box. The ghost pepper is really spicy and the garlic is so flavorful – like maybe the best salt we have ever tried! Even my 3-year-old Quinn tried it – ran around the house yelling “Spicy! Spicy!” And then came back asking for more. It will bring life and heat to any dish.
Sweet Pillar’s Muhammara– A complex mix of roasted peppers, sautéed cumin seeds, toasted walnuts and pomegranate juice. Great for dips, layered into your fave panini or served as a side to your fave protein.
Ron and Leetal’s Harissa with preserved lemon – A flavorful condiment made with locally sourced lemons that will add a punch to any dish.
Going, Going, GONE!
This is my third time experiencing Boxwalla and let me just say this: these boxes are sold out every single time before I can even get my posts up! Sign up now for June before it’s too late! Spoiler alert: In June, we will be discovering Earthwise Beauty. And the June box has a retail value of over $150! Sign up now!
P.S. Did I mention the Boxwalla boxes are crafted from tree-free handmade paper!? The process is child labor free and employs 63 local villagers and 20 skilled artisans. They are so beautiful and always come in a different size to perfectly fit each month’s goods.
So, like I said, April is sold out already but Boxwalla did set a few of the Wandering Woman’s English Spring boxes aside for one-time purchase for anyone who wants to treat their mom or themselves for Mother’s Day. And in my world, everyday is Mother’s Day so….get on it!
