January Green Beauty Finds

January 23, 2017

This month has been super hectic for so many reasons. Relocating from Boston to Atlanta and all the logistics that go with a big move like trying to find a school and child care for the boys. Not to mention unpacking, change of address, work transfers, walk throughs, paperwork and, and, and. And if moving logistics aren’t enough, my five-year-old got his first ear infection. My health has been at an all-time low. And me and the boys got hit by a car. I mean the list goes on and on but guess what, there was one constant through all of this mayhem. GREEN BEAUTY!

My morning and evening routines failed to waiver and I find solace in taking time for me at the beginning and end of each day – enjoy the ritual of self care. I heard somebody say once, “When you continue to make healthy choices throughout the day, you leave less time and less consideration for unhealthy choices.” And I really find that to be so true. It’s like, if I decide to work out in the morning, I will skip my coffee because I don’t want to be dehydrated while working out and then after that I’m hungry for lunch and the next thing you know I’m tucking myself in at night thinking, “Look at me, no coffee today.”  Good choices begat good choices and I believe discovering green beauty has the power to start the healthy choices domino effect in others.

P.S. I have no idea how most of my packages found me this past month. From the third week in December until last week we were at, my parents-in-law, two hotels and settling in across country. But guess what, they did and I’m dishin’!

Now On With The Show!

Okay, enough about me, lets talk about some fun finds. Highlighting Fig + Yarrow’s face scrub, a bath milk by Little Barn Apothecary, a stunning body oil by True Moringa and a killer blush by Lily Lolo that is so good, I couldn’t keep it to myself!

Coconut + Cactus Hydrating Bath Milk by Little Barn Apothecary

Okay if you follow me on social, you saw that our new place has a CLAW FOOT TUB! (To be completely honest, it actually has TWO! I can’t!!!) This is amazing for so many reasons. Claw foot tubs just have this old world charm, they are wicked cute and…big. And when I say big, I mean this 5’10” frame can sit in it, LEGS STRAIGHT and actually take a bath. Like my whole adult life I have never fit in one of my tubs. And its finally happening. It’s all happening!

So needless to say, I am channeling bath salts and bath treatments. First, because I can actually use them for soaking more than just my feet. They add a fragrance to the bath experience, they make your skin feel soft and some say they even detox the body too!

So excited about Little Barn Apothecary’s Coconut + Cactus Hydrating Bath Milk. Perfect for my dry skin in winter. Aloe and coconut milk join together to bring moisture, nutrients and soften skin. Plus this treatment has a super mild scent and is not overpowering at all. I love it, my skin feels so soft and moisturized after a soak – this has got me jonesing for a bath every night.

Here are the ingredients: Cocos Nucifera (coconut) milk, Dehydrated Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Powder, Sodium Bicarbonate, Kaolin (Pink Clay). Clean, clean and clean.

P.S. Little Barn Apothecary is my new neighbor! I can’t wait to check out more from them!

Fig + Yarrow Facial Scrub

I am ALWAYS on the hunt for a good face scrub. And this one was fun to use. First impressions were: it’s a beautiful color, it smells like flowers and jam and it’s small! Then I realized I got a deluxe sample size which is half the volume of the one that sells on their site. So whew! Tiny product crisis averted. This one is 1.4 oz and the one on their site is 2.8 oz. Either way, this is a concentrated formula and requires less than what you would expect to use. I found about the size of a quarter to be enough for my whole face – which you take and rub between your hands to make an emulsion. Then work the emulsion into face and neck for a mild to medium mechanical exfoliation.

I found that more water = less exfoliation and less water = more exfoliation. The consistency is interesting too. It is a mix of ground oats, clay and honey and it is reminiscent of that kinesthetic sand you see at Brookstone – imagine adding water to that and having it turn into a granular mud. I liked it and my face feels clean and glowing after. It’s not a rough exfoliation by any means but it gets the job done. I would limit this to no more than 2x/week. And with that approach, I think this tiny jar would last me maybe about a month I would guess.

The ingredients check out too. You can find them here. On my list of face scrubs, Acure’s Brightening Scrub and Josh Rosebrook’s Active Enzyme Exfoliator still reign in top spot. But this one is fun if you are looking to mix it up or try something new. $22/1.4oz

True Moringa: Passion Moringa + Neroli Body Oil

WOW! I have talked about True Moringa before when they introduced their debut product; 100% pure, cold-pressed Moringa Oil. Their original oil can be used to moisturize face, hair and body and I gotta say, it’s really nice. This is one of the fastest assimilating body oils I’ve tried to date, it really soaks right in and brings the moisture. If you are scared of trying body oils because you don’t want to feel greasy, this would be a good place to start. You can check out my review of their original oil here. Now on to the Moringa + Neroli Oil!

So exciting because True Moringa just recently branched out and is now offering not only oils but body butters, a cure balm, a bath soak, a body polish, toners and more!

I was psyched to try one of their newest oils (which can also be used on body, face or hair,) called Passion. This oil consists of cold-pressed Moringa oil and steam distilled Neroli essential oil and thats it. It smells good, goes on with no greasiness and it supports small farming families in Ghana. Love it.  $26/1oz

Coralista Cheek Duo by Lily Lolo Cheek

Yeah, totally loving this duo. This matte pink is subtle, playful, pretty and can be built up for a more defined look. Lily Lolo’s pic on their website makes it look like more of an orange blush but this is definitely a pink. With my olive toned skin and dark features I tend to shy away from pinks – like no pink shirts in my closet although I do have a pair of pink jeans but I digress – Anyways, I have found a couple of pinks that I am loving on my cheeks this winter and this is one of them! (The other is RMS’s lip2cheek in Smile).

This one is especially fun because it comes with a highlighter to layer over or above cheek color. It adds life and brightness to the face that sometimes goes flat after layering with foundation, concealer and powder. You can see a subtle glow just above my cheek and below my eye – that’s it!

The ingredients in this vegan friendly formula are also stellar with moisturizing jojoba seed oil at the top of the list. You can check out the ingredient list here. If you haven’t tried anything by Lily Lolo yet I would say start with their mascara then try this!

Have you tried any of these? What are you loving this month?

Smooches!

Hey Lisa, amazing picks! Loved reading about them! I think I really want to try the Coralista Cheek by Lily Lolo. But anyway, the blog starts with a brief paragraph about what’s happening with you. And you’ve mentioned that you and your boys were hit by a car??? When did this happen? Hope you guys are doing okay…And really hope you and your kiddo feels better (for his ear infection) soon!

Thanks so much for your concern! This happened two weeks ago here in Atlanta. We are getting chiropractic care and treatment. It could have been a lot worse so I am thankful for that! If you go with the Lily Lolo Cheek Duo – treat yourself to their mascara too, you will love it!
