KHUS + KHUS and Beauty Heroes_

Guys. Hold. The. Phone. KHUS + KHUS is in the house. KHUS + KHUS is a brand I have been wanting to talk to you about for a while now. They are über clean, organic/wild harvested, effective and down right a pleasure to use. I’ve tried a bunch of their stuff but today I am going to talk about what’s featured in their recent colab with Beauty Heroes. For the Beauty Heroes December discovery we are seeing a hero of BLEU BODY WAX 200 ml ($68) and a 30ml SANS AGE Face Serum ($48) a $116 value for less than $39 if you sign up for a minimum of three months subscription. Want to see what makes this brand so special? Read on for my KHUS + KHUS review!

KHUS + KHUS As A Brand

KHUS KHUS organic skincare Okay, I grabbed the above off the KHUS + KHUS website. This is pretty much the only thing on their “About Me” page – I mean, it really says it all. The only other thing is they mention some of their products are made with beeswax however they will custom modify, upon request, for all the vegans out there. I mean how much do you love this brand already!?

Founder Kristi Blustein sets her brand apart not only with the above philosophy but in addition, her blends are rooted in traditional science as well as the principles of Ayurveda.

Beauty Heroes December_Ayurveda combines the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge). Ayurvedic medicine, as practiced in India, is one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world. Many practices predate written records and were handed down by word of mouth. Key concepts of Ayurvedic medicine include:

  • universal interconnectedness (among people, their health and the universes)
  • the body’s constitution and life forces (prakriti and dosha)

Using these concepts physicians prescribe individualized treatments including compounds of herbs, diet, exercise and lifestyle. The majority of India’s population uses Ayurvedic medicine. – National Center for Integrative Health

Kristi has a formal education in Ayurvedic medicine, Yogic + Vedic Science, Eastern + Western herbalism and extensive studies in aromatherapy. And she is SICK at mixing up a good face oil + body oil.

KHUS + KHUS Blue Body WaxOkay, first impressions, LOVE the size here. This 200 ml body moisturizer is HUGE in terms of green beauty standards. This black miron pot screams luxury. I honestly just love unscrewing this huge top and feeling the weight of the jar – with each twist, the anticipation of pampering my legs and arms shoots giddy all through my body. The BLEU BODY WAX is made with a base of coconut oil which means it’s a solid wax in a resting state but when it is warmed with body heat, it melts in to a nourishing oil to coat limbs and trunk. Check out the ingredients:

In this formula we are seeing heavy hitters: organic Blue Tansy, organic Blue Yarrow and organic Babassu Seed Oil. Ingredients that Kristi says offer nervous system regulation and tune the body toward self-repair. It’s made with a base of coconut oil and held together with the slightest amount of beeswax. So it’s solid at resting state (anything under 76 degrees) but melts in your hand’s warm 98.6.

This is best applied straight out of the shower when skin is damp but not drenched. Body oil in a nutshell is lotion without the water so when we add water to the application process here we are also adding a moisturizing comment along with the already existing nourishing oils. (I mean: buy the oils, get the water for free – right!?) This wax goes on with one intention in mind. To penetrate the skin. No dilly dallying around on the surface this oil soaks in and does it’s duty as a full fledged body moisturizer.

Kristi recommends using this moisturizer following the principles of Abhyanga (Ayurvedic medicine oil massage). Starting with arms, chest and neck and massaging towards the heart. Then from the feet up to the legs, hips and torso and finishing with a lower back massage. I usually just apply mine to my legs, knees, elbows and arms but I should really do a full body application like this – a lower back massage sounds amazing.

KHUS + KHUS color_Um. LOVE IT! I’ve tried two of KHUS + KHUS’s face serums now (BLOSSOM and SANS AGE) and they are both heavy hitters. To me, this is where founder Kristi’s work really shines. Her face oils go on smooth, they nourish the skin and they absorb. Period. I wouldn’t call her face oils, dry oils but they absorb as needed and leave skin feeling so good – protected, nourished and plump.

SANS AGE is specifically formulated to target inflammation. KHUS + KHUS explains there’s a biochemical connection between systemic inflammation and the visible signs of aging. Kristi says the antidote is a powerful blend of German chamomile, blue tansy and helichrysum to cool inflammation. Check out the full ingredient list (it’s so hardcore organic and clean – not only are the oils organic/wild harvested but even the extracts are CO2 extracted which is the cleanest extraction method around!):

SANS AGE Face Serum ingredients

This serum is a beautiful light blue color and the smell alone will put you in a trance. Both the color and scent are GORGEOUS. I love this formula as a night or day moisturizer.

And KHUS + KHUS packages in an amount that doesn’t exist in green beauty. HUGE. There is so much product here! The face oil we are getting here is actually a half size product. And it’s the same size as most standard size face oils I get. Her standard size is 50 ml which is almost double industry standard. (Same for everything else too! Her body oils are 200 ml and her lip treatment is the biggest I’ve seen too.) Not that size is everything but it creates an element of WOW this is really something beautiful! And also it’s nice to know that when you spend upwards of $70 on a body moisturizer you are getting something that will last more than a week – right!?

KHUS + KHUS sizing
The size we are getting is shown on the left. The standard KHUS + KHUS face oil are the other two.

Just for reference, I’ve also tried BLOSSOM and every time I wear it to bed, my husband is like WHATS THAT SMELL!? It’s so good! I’m like, Oh nothing…just my face oil. The KHUS + KHUS blends truly smell amazing. You can read more about BLOSSOM here.
