If you are into green, nontoxic, organic beauty, you may have heard about Beauty Heroes. If you haven’t, let me catch you up because girl, you are missing out. And if you have, let me tell you a little bit more about what Beauty Heroes offers and what makes them standout. Read on for my Beauty Heroes review!

I’ve been receiving Beauty Heroes boxes for just about a year now. Their subscription costs as little as $37.96 (with a 12 month commitment) or up to $58.95 for a month-to-month subscription with the option to cancel anytime. Beauty Heroes promises a $90+ value. This is what I’ve received so far:

Why Beauty Heroes?

I think we all know the feeling when we buy…we try…and we hate right? It’s an impulse buy at Sephora or maybe a face cream after a spa treatment. Something we splurge on but end up meh about in the end. Or we don’t understand what we are really buying in the first place but the girl said it was good so…on the card it went. You are not alone girl, it’s happened to the best of us. Well, Beauty Heroes takes the guess work out of your skin and haircare routine. Every single product has been vetted – not only to ensure the ingredients are safe but that they perform too.

If you are wondering why it’s important for products to be vetted for safety well, believe it or not, the FDA says it’s the responsibility of the cosmetic manufactures to ensure that their products are safe when used as directed. What does this mean? Well it’s pretty much like running a bank on the honors system. Manufactures are left to use whatever ingredients they like and sell it as skincare or makeup or whatever. This often translates to ingredients that are cheap and synthetic, not to mention includes the use of known toxins, known carcinogens, known endocrine disruptors and the list goes on and on. Why? Because using cheap ingredients with an immortal shelf life means a higher margin for manufactures. It’s a no brainer really.

What Founder Jeannie Jarnot Believes In

Beauty Heroes founder Jeannie Jarnot believes in just the opposite. Not only does she vet products for safety, she chooses from the top of the line. She goes beyond just “nontoxic” and looks for product that will feed our skin and our souls. We are talking hand crafted, small batch, innovative lines that source ingredients with the utmost care and thoughtfulness.

Jeannie says, I started Beauty Heroes to change the way women discover and enjoy healthy and non-toxic beauty products.  Non-toxic was a huge focus for me, because naturally, no one wants to be using products that cause cancer, endocrine disruption and so on.  When I started the company, I used the word non-toxic a lot in describing our service and products.  But along the way I realized that was actually setting the bar too low.  It’s a no brainer that we don’t want toxic products.  Non-toxic is the bare minimum of what we should expect from products we buy to put on our bodies.  I created my company for me, and people like me, who want and expect better.

For example:

  • LILFOX’s Jungle Glow mask is made with raw rainforest honey from Hawaii.
  • Osmia buys their Sandalwood from Australia instead of India to avoid unethical sourcing.
  • Max and Me uses oils from high vibrational plant materials and essences.
  • Innersense Beauty has elevated their new formulas to exclude all GMOs.
  • Josh Rosebook’s line is almost exclusively 100% organic.

And the list goes on and on.

Jeannie created Beauty Heroes after working as a spa director at The Four Seasons San Fransisco and the Carnerons Inn in Napa. She was responsible for sourcing and stocking all the products the spa would use on their clients. It was through this experience that Jeannie connected with Yael, founder of Red Flower.

I remember the very first brand that I felt truly and deeply connected to; Red Flower.  At that time, Red Flower was a small, independent brand in New York founded by Yael Alkalay, who seemed to understand beauty and ritual better than anyone I’d ever met.  Yael would  turn the introduction of a candle into a mesmerizing and memorable experience.  She made me fall in love with products in a way I previously hadn’t.  She would come to the spa and be present, with me and with my staff. She created a personal connection with us, and in turn we all had a personal connection to the Red Flower products we used in our treatments and in the spa.

Through Beauty Heroes, Jeannie continues to introduce us to brands, brand founders, brand stories and one of a kind products to Beauty Heroes members. Products that deserved to be discovered.

The other thing that makes Beauty Heroes unique is Jeannie has a genuine relationship with all of the brands she works with which means often Beauty Heroes members are the first to try brand’s new releases, experience new packaging, reformulations and special editions of product. It’s pretty lit. Maya Chia made an exclusive scent for her Waterless Wonder Balm just for Beauty Heroes members – it’s never been released to the public. And AU Naturals debuted their new packaging and formulas though Beauty Heroes just last month.

May 2017 Beauty Heroes Discovery: Max and Me

This month members are seeing the Circle of Protection body oil by Max and Me. This is Beauty Heroes’ first colab with an international brand. This body oil smells so good and soaks right in. Switching from lotion to oils has changed my life. My skin feels healthier and more nourished using oil on my face and on my body. Oils are awesome because without the addition of water there is no need for a preservative. If you haven’t tried and oil yet, give it a go!

Max and Me is a pretty special company too and this specific oil is serioulsy amazing. Max and Me blends with high vibrational oils which “penetrate deeper into cells and work on an energetic level to align, support and energize.” This oil is packed with antioxidants and active ingredients including: argan, marula, rosehip, magnolia, manlucka, jasmine, litsea, vetiver, and silver fur. It’s designed to work with our body and bring out the inner light in all of us.

Co-founder Max says, “I take it when I go on a trip because it helps me. After arriving I take a shower and the high vibrational ingredients help me to clean off all of all of the radiation I’ve collected. And I really feel cleansed inside out.”

This month we also get a full size Circle of Protection body oil as well as a travel size of the same oil (one to keep and one to share – or travel with). And a sample of their award wining face oil Enchanted. A $95 value.

Beauty Heroes Mission

beauty heroes past discovery featuring four products from innersense

The intention of Beauty Heroes is to slow down beauty discovery, so you can enjoy this process, and become more deeply connected to what you use on your skin and body.  My belief is that when you understand your products, the people behind them the benefits of the ingredients, how they are made and why they work for you, you actually enjoy them more.  At Beauty Heroes our intention is to foster this connection to your products by presenting beauty in an intentional way, focusing on one product and one brand at a time, and the people behind that brand, as well. – Jeannie

I have had the pleasure of meeting up with Jeannie a couple of times over the past year. This is a pic of us this past week at the Indie Beauty Expo in Dallas. Her heart is always in the right place and she is centered in the notion that providing less, high quality product to members is a way to love more.
