May 20, 2020 (updated February 28, 2021)

With so many blogging courses out there, I wanted to share my personal experience with Six-Figure Blog Academy. This is hands-down the best blogging course if you want to grow a profitable blog and online business.

Note: Kate Kordsmier’s course, Six-Figure Blog Academy, is currently closed for enrollment. You can join the waitlist or sign up for 21 Days to Impact here. She’s also hosting a free video training to help you improve your blogging skills!

Four years ago, I started a blog on a whim. I didn’t really want to but my friend convinced me to do it. I mean, it happens. Didn’t want to go out tonight but my friend made me do it. Didn’t want to watch that movie but my friend made me do it. Didn’t want to eat an entire bag of chips but…

At the time I was putting all of my content on Instagram and living my life off of my “new follower count.” What I didn’t realize was that, over time, Instagram would continue to update its algorithm as they move toward a pay-to-play structure. Maddening, I know, but let’s bracket that for a minute and come back to it.

I hit the ground running with my shiny new blog, ready to change the world. I was pissed off to my core about my doctor’s tunnel vision in treating my son’s eczema symptoms while ignoring the root cause. I wanted to scream all things holistic-living from the rooftops.

But then a funny thing happened.

As I started talking about better lifestyle choices like incorporating bone broth, choosing pastured eggs and using honey as a face mask, beauty brands started reaching out and asking, “Can we send you some product?” And I was like, “Does a one-legged duck swim in a circle?! YES!”

I felt like I had made it. I was making new friends, learning new information and getting free lipsticks. All was right in the world. Until it wasn’t. Read more about my first year blogging to see what worked and what didn’t.

As this snowballed, my work-load grew bigger and I was investing more time on my blog which was taking away time with my kids, my family, and my real job. I started feeling this simultaneous push-pull of guilt and lust whenever I sat down at my computer to work. I love so many things about blogging; creating, sharing truths, connecting, serving, discovering new… but I struggled with balance and justifying the hours spent behind my screen.

What I didn’t realize at that time is, I was running my own business. HELLO. I had a full blown business, I just wasn’t charging for my work. WHO DOES THAT?! Does a plumber look at you cockeyed when you ask him how much you own him? Does the sub shop say, “Nah, this one’s on the house”? Does the nail tech tell you to put your money away? No, no and NO! So why the heck was I working for free?

I still to this day don’t fully understand it but all I can say is; it crept up on me. One day I had a hobby and the next I had a bonafide six-figure business and it all happened right under my nose.

I lead with this story for two reasons. First, the lack of direction, focus and big picture with blogging really took a toll on my mental health and my ability to justify and enjoy what I was doing. If I had launched with the intention of starting my own business and working toward that goal from day one, it would have alleviated some of the tension and provided more clarity throughout the process.

Second, I would have started charging for my work a lot sooner. My friend Kate who offers Six Figure Blog Academy, an online blogging course said FROM DAY ONE she signed up for Google AdSense and was earning pennies from advertisements the moment she pressed publish on her first blog post. This mindset would have given me focus and helped me justify the hours spent along the way. I honestly didn’t make a penny on my blog for the year or two so this perspective would have changed everything.

Third, I often (still to this day) feel like I am playing catchup on the business and tech side of things. I get overwhelmed and lost in the details when it comes to what plugins to use, setting up automations, organization (that’s a huge one), keyword research, connecting my personal and business pages on Facebook…LOL – I mean ALL OF IT.

I learned a lot of lessons from my first year blogging. And I have to say, be as resourceful as you can NOW so you’re not playing catch up later on.

So last summer when my friend Kate asked me if I wanted to give her new blogging course a test run, I was like, OMG HECK YES. And it’s pretty much been bible ever since.

Meet Kate Kordsmier

Kate is a real go-getter. She started working as a freelance journalist at the age of 21, dabbled in copywriting, traveled the world as a food and travel writer and has written for over 125 magazines including Women’s Health, mindbodygreen, REAL SIMPLE and she pretty much had it all – until she didn’t. She was sick of traveling and the “time-for-money” limitations inherent in freelancing and so, she decided to start her own blog.

But she wasn’t going to leave a good paying career for nothing so she started her blog on day one with the mindset that this was going to be her business. Year one was crap. But year two she earned 75K, year three 150K, year four 195K and get this….in the first month of her 5th year blogging she earned 116K IN ONE MONTH. All of this to say, Kate has taught herself a thing or two about how to earn a living blogging and she’s sharing all the ins and outs in her course; Six Figure Blog Academy.

Best Blogging Course for Newbies and Experienced Bloggers

This course covers everything you need to know about earning an income from your blog. It’s great for newbies because it’s legitimately a tried and true roadmap that will guide you along the way. It reduces the stress of starting your own business and eliminates questions like; What’s next? Did I do that wrong? Is there something better? What am I missing? What do I do first?

However, it’s also great for people like me who have been blogging for years but don’t actually know what they are doing when it comes to the tech/business side of things. I love this course because it’s filled in the gaps, connects the dots and continues to hold my hand where I need it the most while I try to reverse engineer everything I did wrong in the beginning.

Six Figure Blog Academy includes…

The course is really easy to take with both written and video content and it covers these 8 topics:

  • The Basics: How to Start a Blog
  • Creating Killer Content
  • Your Most Important Asset: Your Email List
  • Build an Audience: How to Drive Traffic to Your Blog
  • Income Streams: Advertising
  • Income Streams: Sponsored Content
  • Income Streams: Affiliate Marketing
  • Invest in Your Business: Outsourcing and Support

There’s also a ton of bonuses too like 45+ plug-and-play templates from media kits to sponsored content pitches, product sample request emails, follow up emails, the perfect rejection responses to keep the conversation going, campaign report templates, customizable spreadsheets + tracking tools, e-books, outsourcing referrals, and guest post, podcast and PR pitching email examples. I mean GOLD. Not to mention additional bonus masterclasses on Instagram, SEO, Pinterest, money mindset, podcasting and more.

I also love that you get lifetime access and you go at your own pace. Still to this day, I go back and re-read modules or reference templates. This year I started building out my team and I used Kate’s included hiring framework to guide me through the entire process.

How to Get Started Blogging

I recommend starting out with Kate’s free webinar, 3 Behind-the-Scenes Secrets to Profitable Blogging. That way you can get a chance to meet Kate, see what she has to offer, see if you like her style, etc. Plus this webinar will kick off your experience by giving you a broader idea of what blogging entails and how it might fit into your life.

And if you don’t have time for that, I recommend grabbing Kate’s 99-Step Roadmap to blogging. It will give you a better picture of what kind of teacher Kate is, what she considers to be essential…how thorough she is, etc.

Kate’s approach to blogging is a no-funny-business, heart-centered one. That, combined with her enneagram 3-ness (ambitious to improve themselves, to be “the best they can be” and often become outstanding) she’s pretty much explored, tested and tried it all. I actually have her on speed dial and that’s not even a joke. (Okay, it’s Voxer but same diff – LOL). She is my go-to for all things blogging and I learn from her everyday. I’m also loving her new pod Success with Soul – so many practical tips here.

Four years into blogging, and I’m definitely still learning! But with a course like the Six Figure Blog Academy, I know I’m on the right track.

Why Should You Start a Blog?

Remember I was talking about the Instagram algorithm changing and squeezing out my content? That won’t happen with a blog. With a blog (and an email list) YOU control the user experience. You own your blog. You own your email list. And you can serve from a place of knowing people will see your message. And this is where you can really start to make some impact. Change lives. Do good.

If you are still on the fence, try taking this fun quiz to figure out what kind of blogger you are.

Kate will make you a better, more profitable blogger while doing what you love.

And if you are ready to take your blog to the next level, you can check out Six Figure Blog Academy here.

If you have a blog, share it below in the comments. And if you are thinking about starting a blog, what do you want to blog about?
