Cultured Beauty Box: November Reveal

December 1, 2016

Sharing is caring!

Hey hey hey! I’ve discovered a new beauty box subscription! I was thrilled when Cultured Beauty Box reached out to me to see if I wanted to review their service. I asked them which brands they were featuring this month and they started with Au Naturale and followed it up with HollyBeth Organics and I’m like, I’M IN!

Cultured Beauty Box was started out of frustration and inspiration. After years of using harsh products, which wreaked havoc on the founders sensitive skin, she came to realize there are over a thousand ingredients used in US cosmetic products that are banned in other countries. With a desire to spread awareness and clean products, Cultured Beauty Box was born.

Cultured Beauty’s mission is to make beauty healthy, honest and simple. Each month you will receive an array of products that are between deluxe and full size. The November box includes 4 full size products and a travel size deodorant. This is a great way to try a range of products for a much lower cost. Let’s see what November has to offer!

So this month we get a full size Au Naturale lip balm + cream eye shadow, a full size HollyBeth Organics mist, some kaia naturals juicy bamboo wipes and a travel size of their the takesumi detox deodorant.

HollyBeth Organics Lavender Mist
HollyBeth Organics Lavender Mist, 1.69 oz, $20

HollyBeth was started in 2007 by owner HollyBeth Anderson who wanted products that were safe and nontoxic to nurture the skin and uplift the soul. Anderson was inspired by her travels to places like France and Spain where she learned about the healing powers of herbs and essential oils. She also grew up in Georgia near the woods where she was constantly inspired by nature. All of her products are not only certified organic but also cruelty free, vegan and gluten free.

I’m starting this reveal with my fave pick from this box. Check out this ingredient list:

  • Organic Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Distillate

That’s it! This smells exactly like dried lavender and can be used to freshen up your face and body or as a fragrance mist to enliven pillows and linens. Because it intrinsically has antibacterial properties, HollyBeth says it can even be used on minor cuts, rashes and bug bites too. Love this!

Au Naturale Lip Gloss in Deep Coral and Creme Eye Shadow in Ivory
Lip Gloss in Deep Coral, $15 and Creme Eyeshadow in Ivory, $20

Also a top fave! Au Naturale’s makeup is made fresh everyday in small batches in their own Wisconsin lab – it is gluten free, cruelty-free, vegan and 100% natural with a strong concentration of organic ingredients. They shared with me at iBE this past summer that they are working toward organic certification which is a huge accomplishment and so exciting.

This lip gloss is super pigmented and Deep Coral is a fun choice for the holidays. It has a little bit of simmer to it and a ton of shine. Goes on smooth with no stickiness and smells wicked fruity. Here are the ingredients;

Oleic/Linoleic/Linolenic Polyglycerides, Organic Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Rubus Idaeus (Red Raspberry) Seed Oil, Camelina Sativa (Camelina) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Wax, Organic Flavor (a mix of organic essential oils), Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Mica

I have tried a ton of Au Naturale’s creme shadows and Ivory is by far one of my faves! I can’t tell you how much I love this color – it’s a subtle neutral but brings it with a little bit of life and some shimmer. It’s a light cream color with gold undertones/shimmer and can be used as a shadow or a highlighter. Usually I need a primer with these oil-based shadows but because this one is so light/natural I can wear it alone. A couple of swipes over my lid with my finger and in the corner of my eyes and it’s a wrap! Easy, super clean and beautiful! Here are the ingredients:

All boxes will get these two colors. So pretty!

the takesumi detox deodorant, travel size, by kaia naturals
the takesumi detox deodorant, travel size, kaia naturals, .42 oz/$7.50

This deodorant uses activated charcoal to chemically bind with substances like bacteria and toxins to draw them out of the body. Kaia’s website says charcoal is so potent that one gram (the size of your fingernail) can absorb enough toxins to fill four tennis courts (??!!??). This formula is vegan, cruelty free and 99% natural. Also free of aluminum, parabens, propylene glycol and baking soda. They include a breakdown of their ingredients on their website here.

I’ve been using this deodorant for a couple of days now. Still too early to tell if it is a good fit for me or not but some interesting things to mention. This has no baking soda in it so it may be a good option for someone with baking soda sensitivities. It goes on super smooth and has a gel-like consistency. If you are used to using natural deodorants, you won’t think twice about the consistency or the applied feeling. If you are not used to natural deodorants you may consider this a little bit of a wetter formula. And it applies clear. I was wondering if it transferred gray or black like some other charcoal based deodorants but it is totally clear.

kaia naturals promises products that are gluten free, cruelty free, sulfate free and paraben free.

30 juicy bamboo cleansing oil cloths, $15.50

Also by kaia naturals we are getting a pack of 30 bamboo cleaning cloths. I have seen these around but I didn’t realize they are biodegradable!? The kaia naturals website says, if planted, these will fully biodegrade in 60-70 days. Love that.

kaia naturals also says this wipe is 99% natural with 1% preservatives. I took a look at the preservatives (you know I did guys!) and I just wish these preservatives didn’t rate so high on EWG. Here is the full ingredient list, check it out:

agua/water, miel/honey, sorbitan laurate, helianthus annuus/sunflower seed oil, hydrolyzed jojoba esters, glycerin, decyl glucoside, polyglyceryl-4 laurate, dilauryl citrate, xanthan gum, citric acid, citrus tangeria (tangerine peel oil), citrus aurantifolia (lime extract), citrus grandis (grapefruit)

Don’t get me wrong though, these are still a lot cleaner than conventional makeup wipes. And they smell fantastic.

It’s A Wrap!

I loved getting this service! I found some amazing new colors and a fantastic room/linen/body spray which is amazing! The total value for this box is $77.50 but members score it for $59 with free shipping. A two month notice is required to cancel. This is a peek at their September box which was their inaugural box. A total of value of $127 for just $59!

Honua Hawaiian Skincare Aloha Youth Serum ($58) and Beauty Water ($24) – Love this line!

Zena Living The Gold Dust ($30) and Chocolate Body Scrub ($15) – Haven’t tried but looks promising!
