I first met Jeannie in 2016, just 9 months after I started my blog. Beauty Heroes was 2 years old at the time and I introduced myself via a cold email in August. I threw it out there that I would be at the New York Indie Beauty Expo and asked if I could introduce myself in person. The next thing I know I’m at a very intimate Beauty Heroes reception at Red Flower in NYC rubbing shoulders with Adrian Greener and the rest is history.

Jeannie has redefined luxury in the clean beauty space. I’ve seen Beauty Heroes grow and adapt and redefine itself over the years to the point where Beauty Heroes is now one of the cleanest, and biggest beauty retailers in the world.

Along with their online shop, Beauty Heroes recently opened a retail space in Novato California which also offers spa treatments like Josh Rosebrook and Laurel facials. But Beauty Heroes is most known for their monthly discoveries.

Every month, members delight in crème de la crème clean beauty sent to their door. These discoveries often showcase new releases, international brands, custom product and highly coveted luxury beauty for as low as $38/month. You can check out some of their past discoveries here.

I love Beauty Heroes because their ingredient standards are a cut above the rest. You wont find some of the “on the fence” ingredients in clean beauty (like phenoxyethanol, GSE, Japanese Honeysuckle or dimethicone) in any of the products they stock or send out. But not only that, Beauty Heroes takes it one step further and considers not only whats good for our bodies but what’s good for the planet ie. responsible packaging, biodegradable ingredients, reusability etc.

All of this to say, not only are you in good hands with Jeannie Jarnot, you are in for a TREAT! As a former, longtime spa director and clean beauty expert, Jeannie knows luxury in clean beauty and she continues to push that bar higher and higher by the day.

When I started the company, I used the word non-toxic a lot in describing our service and products.  But along the way I realized that was actually setting the bar too low.  It’s a no brainer that we don’t want toxic products.  Non-toxic is the bare minimum of what we should expect from products we buy to put on our bodies.  I created my company for me, and people like me, who want and expect better.

AMEN! Okay, I was really excited to virtually sit down with Jeannie to get to know her a little better. I hope you enjoy getting to know her a little bit better too! (P.S. I cued up Jeannie’s soundtrack linked below to read through this piece which was a nice way to connect too ; ) .

Up close and personal with Jeannie Jarnot…

What’s your first 30 minutes like?

I wake up and get my first cup of coffee and I enjoy it while reading the Huff Po daily email. It’s the perfect mix of news and current events for me. Then, I strive to meditate or exercise. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to get to both in one day. If not, I’m rushing off to work and to my first meeting.

What’s your morning skincare routine?

I shower every morning, so most mornings I’ll cleanse or exfoliate in the shower. Right out of the shower I’ll mist liberally with something like Blüh Alchemy’s Toning Elixir or Ranavat’s Jasmine Tonique. After a few minutes, I’ll apply Aloha Youth Serum mixed with Blüh Alchemy’s Multi-C Serum. Then, a few minutes later a layer of Ayuna’s Velo. As a final step, I add some Graydon Face Glow and a very basic everyday makeup look.

What’s your #1 go-to makeup product?

Definitely Graydon’s Face Glow. I won’t leave home without it. It’s like a primer, tinted moisturizer, and illuminator all in one. It’s my baseline.

What’s your typical breakfast?

My second cup of coffee with oat milk.

Are you a coffee or tea drinker?

There’s a time and a place for everything. Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon. And I am in love with Four Sigmatic mushroom tonic, they really work for me and boost my focus, energy, and immunity.

What’s your exercise routine?

It varies. I love high intensity exercise like boot camp, paired with yoga. That’s when my body has felt the best. Right now, though, I’ve been taking as many walks as possible with some stretching and yoga in my living room.

Can you share your playlist?

Yes, actually I’ve been making a playlist of music I have discovered during quarantine. Music-hunting is my favorite hobby. I keep adding to this list every day to remember this time. It’s a memorable, weird time of our lives, it deserves its own soundtrack.

What natural deodorant works for you?

Oh, good question. I developed a deodorant hack that has significantly up’d my deodorant game a couple of years ago. It’s a 2-part process that starts with a layer of your favorite natural deodorant, with a second layer of a natural body powder. For example, right now I’m alternating between Cleo + Coco’s Charcoal Deodorant (I’m using Blue Tansy) and Violet’s Are Blue’s Magnesium Deodorant – both are baking soda free. Then I pat on a layer of Cleo + Coco’s Body Powder over it for a very solid layer of moisture absorbency. This technique has been a lifesaver for me.

Favorite podcast(s)?

Off the Record, The Dream, Unlocking Us, Your Purpose Is Beauty

What’s a book that’s rocked your world?

The Big Leap by Gay Timmons. It’s self-helpy. But it helped myself years ago, I re-read it from time to time. Right now I’m into Jolene Hart’s new book, Ignite Your Light.

Favorite health resource?

The New Knew is one of my favorites. I find so much good stuff through you, Lisa!  I also love The Good Trade, Danielle La Porte’s content and I love following @susanjanekitchen on Instagram. She’s written the best vegan cookbooks that are funny, fun, and full of amazing good recipes.

One product that everyone needs to try?

Hah! That’s a loaded question. I don’t think there’s just one. There are many products that bring me joy, comfort, and results. There simply isn’t just one.

What’s your evening skincare routine?

I will double cleanse with 2 different cleansers, an oil cleanser and then a cream or gel cleanser.

Then, I will sometimes exfoliate with a liquid toner like Honua Beauty Water or Jane Scrivener’s Skinfoliate.

Next, I’ll use a little Josh Rosebrook’s Hydration Boost Concentrate and Blüh’s Alchemy Botanic Retinol and an Eye Serum.

Then, I alternate, one night a cream, the next an oil serum, I’ve been pretty partial to Laurel’s Unburden Serum and Max and Me’s I Am the Light as of late.

If I’m feeling up to it, I’ll massage my face with gua sha or kansa wand, or just my hands. I also always apply a lip balm before bed and a head cream. I love LILFOX’s Gelsomino and Beneath Your Mask’s Heal for my hands and feet – especially right now.

What’s on your nightstand?

Beneath Your Mask’s Heal, LILFOX Gelsomino Lip Balm, alarm clock, a big stack of books, my glasses, earplugs, my Tarot deck, and CBD tincture.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

My super guilty pleasure right now is Desus and Mero on Showtime. All I can say about it is you have to be really smart to be that dumb. They make me laugh in ways I never thought I could.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten or given?

You can trust yourself. You really, truly can.

How are you surviving these strange times?

I think being responsible for something bigger than myself has been getting me through this time. I have had to focus on Beauty Heroes, our team and my family which has kept me focused and distracted. I’ve definitely not been idle. This has thrown everyone a huge curve ball, and I just keep coming back to the common denominator, we are all in this together. We need to get out of it together.
