Glowing Beets sent me their August box to review and it is another winner! This is the second box I am reviewing and I feel like I struck gold for two months straight now. July offered up some serious green beauty winners with picks from Suzi at Gurl Gone Green. You can check out the July box here.
If this is the first time you are hearing about Glowing Beets, let me fill you in! Glowing Beets is a subscription box delivering natural beauty and healthy living products to your door every month. Each box contains 3-4 deluxe size products (bigger than a sample and smaller than full size) and the subscription goes for 29.95 + shipping. Loving this subscription for several reasons. First I can play with the products and get a feel for what works with my skin before committing to a full size. Second, I can use the products with ease knowing they have been vetted and are void of toxins. Third, who doesn’t want a box of green beauty products in the mail?!
Okay we have some major players here. It’s like I had no idea I needed these but then they arrived and I wonder – did I even truly understand the definition of happiness before today? Happiness is adorning a mixed media hair elastic around my wrist. Happiness is sun-kissed, shimmering shoulders and legs. Happiness is the perfect nude blush applied over glowing skin. Happiness is Glowing Beet’s August Box.
Hynt’s Alto Matte Powder Blush in Notoriously Nude
This blush has some killer unique selling points. First, it is completely matte and shimmer free. And it can be used straight as a blush or as a contour. My skin is especially olive-y this summer and it is such a beautiful compliment. Very subtle, very nude, very perfect. If you have a more fair complexion than me it may appear more saturated.
I am using it as a contour here in the picture to the left. It is very subtle but you can see the beautiful shadow it implies under my cheekbone.
With ingredients of Sericte, Iron Oxides, Zinc Oxide, Manganese Violet, Ultramarine Blue, this USA made blush is Titanium-Dioxide free and a great option for anyone who has Titanium-Dioxide sensitivities.
This blush comes in a powder and best applied with a brush. It has a long wear time and lasts all day. It looks like pink coco powder and is the perfect combination of cool and warm tones. 28.00
Apoterra Hibiscus Exfoliating Mud
I am always looking for a good exfoliator. This one was so fun to use. It can either be applied as a mask and left on for 10-15 minutes or it can be worked into the skin immediately and used as an exfoliator. Bam!
This handmade, honey based mask is made with 100% organic ingredients – no exceptions here! Honey, flowers, oats, pumpkin, yogurt, sugar, acai, aloe, meadowsweet, rosehip and Vitamin E work to exfoliate, hydrate and brighten skin. The acai gives it a beautiful raspberry jam color. And it is packaged in glass – love.
This company is so transparent. They pride themselves in “never cutting corners” and they list the sourcing for all of their hand-stamped batches on their website, you can check it out here.
On the 1-10 scale of exfoliator power – 1 being very very gentle and 10 being sandpaper – I would give this scrub a 7.5. I am definitely keeping this in my rotation but using once a week at most. My skin felt really great after: clean, refreshed, invigorated, stimulated – it was pretty powerful. Make sure you wet face first before using to help thin out formula otherwise it is tough to apply. Apotherra is serving up a killer two-for-one deal here. I would love to try more of their products, you can shop their site here. 24.00
PS – Can you spot which hair elastic I am wearing?
Knotty’s Classic Chain Pony Bracelet
Speaking of hair elastics…where has this hair elastic been my whole life!? This item isn’t necessarily green but it brings a little glam to the girl who’s gotta throw it up sometimes. Comes in a range of colors and metals – I mean, at this point you are basically doing a disservice to fashion if you are still sporting your plain Jane black Scunci. 12.00
Sudsatorium MIDAS Body Lotion and Tint
Girlfriend meet FUN. FUN meet girlfriend! This body lotion is such a playful option for summer. Perfect over bare, sun-kissed shoulders or golden legs with mini skirts. It goes on super sheer and has a very subtle shimmer. Subtle enough for an adult yet fun for a teen too. I am 38-years-old and I will definitely be rocking this. Fun for a BBQ or sexy for a night out this fair trade, organic, vegan, cruetly-free lotion is actually edible!? The sparkle is made from European Cosmetics Association Approved Edible Golden Lustre (the same stuff that bakeries use to decorate cakes).
The base of this lotion is jojoba, neroli and aloe which is moisturizing without any oiliness and it smells like a flowery coconut tanning oil which is crazy because it is coconut oil free. Maybe it’s the neroli that I am smelling…maybe I need a class in olfactory keenness and interpretation. Anyways, it smells good.
The packaging looks like plastic but it is a bottle made from biodegradable PLA derived from 100% organic plant matter. HELLO.
You can see how subtle it is in this pic. I caught a little bit of shimmer here on my fingertips. Oh and if you missed it, get it? King Midas? 10.86/4.2 oz
Four fun products to help savor the last few weeks of summer. Have you tried Glowing Beets?
