Glowing Beets September box is in the house! So excited to talk about all things Glowing Beets! Something about the element of surprise every time I open their subscription combined with the relief of knowing their products are nontoxic and safe to use just gives me the butterflies – I get so giddy to unveil! And if you haven’t already heard, I am honored to join the Glowing Beets team as an official brand ambassador! Make sure you check back here for product reviews, the skinny on their picks and to see what products look like on! I will have all the juicy deets!
Okay if you are scratching your head wondering what Glowing Beets is all about well, let me give you the low down. Glowing Beets is a subscription box delivering natural beauty and healthy living products to your door every month. Each box contains 3-4 deluxe size products (bigger than a sample and smaller than full size) and the subscription goes for 29.95 + shipping. (Although this month we got FIVE items!) Loving this subscription for several reasons. First I can play with the products and get a feel for what works with my skin before committing to a full size. Second, I can use the products with ease knowing they have been vetted and are void of toxins. Third, who doesn’t want a box of green beauty products in the mail?!
This month we get a facial cleanser, facial toner, facial sponge, liquid liner and some hair oil. Love the mix of skin care, hair care and makeup – excellent curation. I mean skincare is essential but makeup is SO FUN! Okay that being said let me start off with my favorite pick from this month’s box.
Zao Essence of Nature Liquid Black Eyeliner
Made in Italy with 100% natural and 33% organic ingredients Zao liquid liner is cleaner than most. Plus I absolutely LOVE that it is packaged in bamboo! Zao’s commitment to less landfill waste is impressive and they even offer refills on some of their other products. They are also chemical-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free and vegan.
The consistency of the liner is thin but maintains a dense opaque payoff. In addition, it’s thin enough to tightline but easily layered up for a thicker more dramatic look. The brush is ideal in both size and length giving maximum control during application. If you are not used to applying a liquid liner it may take a few tries to get used to controlling the brush, especially on the opposite eye but trust me it is worth the effort!
I have it on here with Gia Mascara in black and bam! See how it just adds the perfect amount of definition to my lash-line? Creates the illusion that my lashes are thicker than they really are. Loving this. Lasts all day with no smudging or falling. Glowing Beets is doling out this liquid liner randomly in black, brown or purple. And of course my kids wanted in on the action when I was taking pics – you can tell by the smily face that a thicker line is easily achievable. This product rates a 3 on EWG. 29.50
pure SOL and qc naturals
Okay I have to start off by saying this company donates 5% of timmy’s toner sales to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida to fund cancer research – a place near and dear to my heart. My mom just had her fourth brain surgery there last year and Dr. Frank Vrionis saved her life – again. (Thank God…and Frank Vrionis). So Michelle, the owner of qc, created this company in 2015 after losing her father to cancer and committing to a nontoxic home. You can read more about their story here. So pretty much already in love with this brand’s heart but let’s talk details.
qc is 100% natural, non-GMO, vegan, cruelty-free and gluten-free. This month we are trying karan’s cleanser and timmy’s toner. This is one of the simplest formulas I’ve seen for a cleanser. The complete ingredient list is: rosewater, organic glycerin and organic essential oils. It’s free of unnecessary surfactants, foaming agents, stabilizers and preservatives which you will often see even in some of the most effective nontoxic products. Simplicity is the name of the game here.
I tried using this cleanser a few different ways and the most success I had was including it in a double cleanse. I didn’t find it strong enough to completely take off makeup and/or daily grime on its own but it was great (if not perfect) after first cleaning with oil. The mildest of cleansers is PERFECT after any oil cleanse so moisture is not stripped away but the extra oil is removed and qc takes on this challenge with grace. 16.50
It’s important to followup a cleanse with a toner to keep skin balanced at a pH between 4 and 5. If the skins acid mantle looses its acidity the skin becomes susceptible to damage and infection as well as irritation and sensitivity. timmy’s toner does this by employing organic apple cider vinegar, organic witch hazel and organic essential oils. I used this on a cotton round and it did a good job of taking off any additional dirt left behind and left my face feeling clean. It did smell like vinegar which can be a pro for some and a not-so-much-pro for others. 16.50
pure SOL konjac sponge is being sent out in either charcoal or turmeric. I recieved the turmeric one. I’ve tried this sponge in the past and I love it. It’s soft enough to use daily yet firm enough to help exfoliate. If you use it with the flat side down it provides a little more exfoliation then with the round side down. This paired great with karan’s cleanser to stimulate skin and remove impurities. This sponge is made from the konjac root plant. The edible fibers are steamed into this shape with no added chemicals. I love that it does not mold or smell after several uses like a facecloth will. It is also cruelty-free, vegan and 100% biodegradable – throw it in the garden when your done with it! 10.00
Anotnin B. Ceramides Enriched Desert Serum
This hair oil came all the way to us from Paris! What a treat! 100% of the ingredients here are naturally derived with 79.4% of them from organic farming. Specifically suitable for dry or color-treated hair (me and me) I was so excited to try!
Packaged in glass, this 5ml deluxe size oil is a light lemon color and smells like powder and florals. I love using this at night. A couple of drops rubbed into hands to heat and then run through locks adds fantastic moisture, a beautiful shine and just the slightest amount of texture by dawn. I ended up favoring a nighttime application to let the oils soak in and really assimilate. I used this when I wore my hair texturized and also when I blew it straight. Both ways it added a beautiful shine and luminance that was lacking right after a fresh wash (and years of chemically treating and heating my aging hair).
And that’s it for September! Check out the Glowing Beets subscription here! Makes a great birthday present, holiday gift or a treat for yourself!
Stay tuned for the Octobers box – I hear it’s a good one!
