Green Beauty Hat Trick

March 29, 2017

Sharing is caring!

There’s really no other way to describe this trio. A hat trick is when the same player scores three goals in one game (like in hockey or soccer) OR the same jockey wins three consecutive horse races. In this beauty scenario I’ve got three green beauty wins: KHUS + KHUS Blossom Face Serum, Lip Glacé in Root and Berry by H IS FOR LOVE and Maya Chia’s Highlight of the Day in Golden Hour. This hat trick has remained front and center on my vanity for the past few months and they’ve claimed top spot in performance, ingredients and formulation. (Okay I don’t actually have a vanity but “bathroom sink counter” just doesn’t have the same ring!) Okay here we go, these are my top three picks for best organic makeup and skincare.

KHUS + KHUS Blossom Face Serum, $78

Blossom Face Serum by KHUS + KHUS is NO JOKE. It’s the real deal in all the right ways – I can’t stop using it. Check out these ingredients:

  • organic or sustainably wild harvested neroli
  • organic or sustainably wild harvested red mandarin
  • organic or sustainably wild harvested petitgrain
  • organic or sustainably wild harvested rosehip Co2
  • organic or sustainably wild harvested sea buckthorn Co2
  • organic or sustainably wild harvested argan oil
  • marula oil
  • wild carrot
  • vitamin E

It’s meant to target acne, mature, sensitive, dry, scars, redness, broken capillaries, combination, environmental stress and palid skin. Um…check, check, check, check, check…maybe that’s why it is working so great for me. Dang it! No but seriously, this line is SO CLEAN. I love the emphasis on wild harvested and organic ingredients which means we bypass any pesticides or chemicals that fortify conventional farming/harvesting. THEN we see some Co2 oils. Co2 extraction is one of the cleanest extraction methods out there and generates a final product that is most like its original source. Oh, and this formula is also non-GMO certified and free from any synthetics.

Blossom Face Serum
Blossom Face Serum

To date I’ve probably tried close to 30 face oils and this one is just a stand alone. Performance wise, I’ve never seen anything like it. It LITERALLY goes on so smooth and soaks right in. It’s so easy to use. No greasiness -and I know I say that for some face oils but this is a step above, like there is not even any shine left on my face. I can even apply makeup right over it without waiting. But above all, it moisturizes so well and my skin just looks good.  Oh and it smells amazing too.

Throughout this whole going green journey I’ve tried a bunch of nontoxic fragrances and perfumes and although I love them I always get the same reaction from Jason: A meh no comment smile and maybe a head nod. But then the first night I tried this oil, I got into bed and he goes, What’s that!? I’m like, My face oil? And he goes, Oh yup. You can wear that as a perfume if you want. I’m like re-he-he-ly…OKAY! And it does not smell strong by any means…he is just really digging the scent profile here. I am too.

So in a nut shell, ever since I got this in the mail I have been thinking two things: First, I need to try more KHUS + KHUS. No ifs ands or buts about it, like NEED. And second, what am I going to do when I run out!? Panic is starting to settle in. You gotta try Blossom Face Serum. $78

Lip Glacé in Root & Berry by H IS FOR LOVE

lip glacé
H is for Love, Lip Glacé, $17

Okay I reviewed this lip balm in the most recent Boxwalla that I got but it deserves an encore. H’s ingredients are thoughtfully sourced and their whole line is almost entirely organic and wild-crafted. They use cold-pressed and unrefined oils. They only use natural preservation methods and their line is made entirely by hand. They pride themselves in sharing nature’s most wonderful gifts and I will be the first to attest to that!

The ingredients speak for themselves…check it out:

  • organic castor bean oil
  • organic olive oil
  • organic coconut oil
  • beeswax
  • mixed tocopherols (non-GMO vitamin E)
  • organic alkanet root
  • organic elder berries
  • organic calendula
  • organic bilberries
  • organic hibiscus
  • organic peppermint essential oil
  • organic sea buckthorn Co2
  • organic vanilla total Co2
  • organic rosemary antioxidant Co2

Now pinch yourself because you ain’t dreamin’!!! You will LITERALLY not find a lip treatment that is as complex, beautiful and clean as this one. I mean it is tinted with freakin’ organic elder berries for Christ’s sake – and it looks amazing!!! One time I tried to make my own blush using organic beet root powder and some tallow and let me just say I never spoke of that moment again. Awful. Like the fact that this formula is tinted with roots and berries and performs like it does – In. Awe.

To continue, it’s moisturizing, goes on like a balm and adds shine. And because of the peppermint oil it has a minty freshness to it which is so refreshing. And the icing on the cake? It’s packaged in a glass MIRON pot. No plasticizers sneaking their way in through the packaging. Can’t say enough about this product. Get it.

Maya Chia’s Highlight of the Day in Golden Hour

highlight of the day
Maya Chia, Highlight of the Day, $42

Um, YES, YES and YAAAASSSSS. This product blew my mind the first time I tried it. It’s an oil based formula dispensed with a glass dropper, housed in dark glass MIORN, and it brings life to my face like nothing else I’ve seen. Check out what’s in it:

  • Supercirtical Chia Seed Oil
  • Broccoli Seed Oil
  • Capriylic/Capric Triglyceride
  • Organic Calendula Flower Extract
  • Organic Sunflower Oil
  • Rosemary Leaf Extract
  • Mica
  • Iron Oxide
  • Titanium Oxide
  • 2% essential oils

Again we are seeing Co2 extracted oils, organics and natural minerals and a healthy dose of heck yeah I look good. Why? Because The Highlight of the Day doesn’t just adorn, it nourishes. It calls on chia seed oil – a superfood rich oil with skin-loving omega fatty acids, antioxidants and minerals to carry the micas and oxides that warm the face with a golden glow.

I favor this formula in Golden Hour and I love wearing it alone, under/over makeup or mixed with my foundation. I happen to think it works especially well with Dusty Girl’s Earth Cream. Try this on your upper cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, your cupid’s bow and if you are wearing a lower cut shirt or tank you could apply a bit on your shoulders and/or collar bone too. And oh my gosh, I almost forgot to mention the scent. A stunning, masculine, botanical complex that will send a buzz down your belly. Something so unexpected in a highlighter/illuminator. I just can’t get enough.

I have tried a couple of things by Maya Chia and I have loved everything I’ve tried but The Highlight of the Day is so unique and it makes you feel so fantastic on the outside AND the inside. A MUST TRY!

My kids just started playing soccer and they run the house yelling GOOOOAAAL – Quinn even belted this out today riding his bike down the hill of our street. But anyways…these three products? GOAL. I’m out and I’m taking this hat trick with me.

Have you tried any of these? What would you include in your green beauty hat trick?
