Okay so I have two favorite nontoxic deodorants – and you are looking at one of them right here! Green Tidings hit the nail on the head with this deodorant. I know this because it works for me, my husband, my sister and your sister. First lets talk ingredients:
- Tapioca powder
- Organic virgin, unrefined coconut oil
- Baking soda
- Organic unrefined, fair trade, shea butter
- Magnesium oil
- Wild crafted candelilla wax
- Lavender is scented with: lavender essential oil
And if you are not sold yet, it works too. I have been disappointed too many times by nontoxic deodorants – and let me tell you this is not the case with Green Tidings. I have tried both the lavender and the non-scented and both are equally as effective.
If you are making the jump from an aluminum based deodorant to a nontoxic deodorant you will probably notice a difference in armpit texture/wetness. Aluminum plugs pores and prevents sweating from happening. Green Tidings uses baking soda to control oder but does not prevent perspiration.
BUT on the scale of nontoxic deodorants, this one is so much dryer compared to the competition and even more importantly it controls odor. I’m talking end of the day…ran around the city for work or out and about with the kids all day…getting ready for bed – shirt comes off, pj’s go on…no odor.
I knew it worked for me but what really convinced me is when my husband (who used to order prescription strength death deodorant) asked me to order this one again for him.
Another huge plus is it comes in a stick. I personally don’t mind using a cream or paste and applying with my fingers but some people are creeped out by that and my husband says it is hard to successfully apply deodorant that way when you add armpit hair into the equation. I’ll take his word for it. Also it can be a little stiff in the tube especially during winter months because it has coconut oil in it which hardens under 76 degrees. If this is the case I tend to press and hold the stick under my arm for a few seconds before rubbing in. Presto change-o, easy-peasy.
Anyways, using a clean nontoxic deodorant is so important. Our skin is our largest organ and whatever we put on it is absorbed into our bodies and bloodstream. And if you don’t believe that think birth control patch or nicotine patch. Absorbed, Right. In. What’s in our deodorant matters. Besides aluminum, here are a few other ingredients to avoid: Fragrance, Parabens, Silica, Triclosan, Talc, Propylene Glycol, steareth-n, BHT, Aminomethyl Propanol, Ceteareth-12 or 20, 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor, Farnesol, SD Alcohol, Isobutane, Butane, Propane, Hydroxycitronellal, Benzyl Benzoate, Limonene, Linalool, Alcohol Denatured and so many more..
Want to know if your deodorant is working for or against you? Check it out on EWG’s Skin Deep Database. Here you can look up products and ingredients and see if they are toxic or clean. It is a great resource – you can use EWG to check out cleaning supplies, makeup, sunblock, food, etc.. – bookmark it!
BUT if you want to avoid all that leg work and research just pick up a stick of Green Tidings and call it a day. It’s clean. It works. Amen.
