If you haven’t heard about LILFOX, pour yourself a cup of tea, grab a cozy blanket and spark up the fire because you are in for a treat! LILFOX was birthed in Miami, Fl by Alexis Rose A.K.A. Madame Fox. After completing studies in aromatherapy and organic cosmetic formulation, Madame Fox launched LILFOX, a line that calls on the healing properties of exotic elements including wild crafted and organic plant essential oils, hydrosols and crystals. Beauty Heroes and LILFOX worked together to select two masks for us to try. Jungle Glow Rainforest Honey Enzyme Cleanser + Mask and an exclusive launch of her brand NEW formulation: Cleopatra Restorative Milk + Honey Beauty Mask. Here is my April Beauty Heroes review!

It’s been since November that we have seen a mask from Beauty Heroes so I was wicked excited to see we got not one but TWO in this month’s discovery. I have tried LILFOX’S Mystic Awakening Rosemary Toning Mist and Amethyst Infusion as well as their Maracujá Youthful Vixen Face Nectar in last October’s Glowing Beets box and I instantly fell in love with this line so needless to say I was psyched to see what Madame Fox’s masks had to offer!

If this is your first time hearing about Beauty Heroes, let me fill you in. This is the crème de la crème, the cream of the crop, the upper crust, and simply put; the best green beauty subscription on the block. Initial signup is a 3 month commitment for $115 and you can cancel at will after that. Each month you will get a minimum of one hero product and one sidekick that generally ranges between $75-$185 in value for just under $39/mo. Last month we saw 4 full sized products with a value of $106. This month we see two products valued at $101. And you are not only getting the benefit of the value but you are getting an opportunity to discover top-notch products that are expertly vetted, void of toxins and preform.

Jungle Glow Enzyme Cleanser + Mask

The Jungle Glow Enzyme Cleanser + Mask is a honey based mask that comes blended so you don’t have to add anything to it to activate it. Believe it or not honey makes a fantastic face cleanser. It has natural anti-bacterial properties and contains enzymes and probiotics that are beneficial to the skin. Plus it brightens, hydrates and exfoliates too so it makes a great base for a mask.

The honey that LILFOX uses is ethically and sustainably harvested from a specific rainforest in Hawaii, shipped to Miami and hand blended by Madame Fox’s all female team. This collaboration almost didn’t happen because it was questionable if they could harvest the amount of honey needed to fulfill the Beauty Heroes units. But it worked out and I’m so happy it did because we get to try this very special mask. It’s really like a three-in-one because it can either be used as a cleanser; left on the face for 1-5 mins or a mask; left on for up to 30 minutes. And in both instances it is a fantastic exfoliator. AND you can even mix it with a clay based mask and leave it on for even longer.

Jungle Glow Mask

I used Jungle Glow as a cleanser and a mask and I have to say I loved it both ways. As a mask, it goes on sticky and will cling to itself separating because of the honey but that is normal – you are still getting a full mask experience. The scent also brings an instant calm calling on neroli oil, mandarin oil, bergamot oil and ylang ylang. By the way, did you know that neroli is used to treat depression and anxiety? It is seriously so calming and I just love that LILFOX chose to incorporate it here.

Jungle Glow sits pretty dormant with maybe the slightest tingle…or maybe not. It’s really easy to use and comfortable to leave on. My favorite part was washing it off when finely ground rosehip seeds steal the show and provide the most gentle manual exfoliation as the mask is rubbed off. My skin felt super clean and plump after.

As a wash, this formula cleans and exfoliates and my skin feels fresh but not stripped. It can be used as a primary or secondary cleanser meaning you can use it as a first cleanse to clean off makeup or go in after makeup has been removed and use it as a secondary cleanse. As a secondary cleanse you leave it on for 1-5 minutes to allow enzymes to activate which makes for a better exfoliation when rinsing off.

Whenever I wash my face with a nourishing product like this I always think back to when I was oh so loyal to my Noxzema cleansing pads – after using those my face literally felt as dry as a mothball and I was like, check. Clean face. You guys know what I mean. I literally thought that’s what clean skin was supposed to feel like. But NO! Face oils are not supposed to be stripped off of your face. LILFOX Jungle Glow cleans dirt and provides a light exfoliation while leaving the skins essential oils in tact.

Speaking of essential oils, here is Jungle Glow’s full ingredient list:

  • Certified Naturally Grown Mel (Raw Rainforest Honey)
  • Pincarnata (Maracuja) Oil
  • Kaolin (Amazonian White) Clay
  • Organic Raw Cacoa
  • Organic Rosehip Seed Oil + Powder
  • Non-GMO Vitamin E
  • Organic Pink Grapefruit Oil
  • Neroli + Organic Petitgrain + Organic Bitter Orange Oil
  • Organic Mandarin Oil
  • Organic Bergamot-BF Oil
  • Organic Ylang Ylang Oil
  • Cacoa Absolute
  • *d–Limonene, Linaloo, Citral, Geraniol, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Salicylate, Benzyl Benzoate, Farnesol, Ugenol, Iso Eugenol

I talked to Madame Fox about these last ingredients starting with d-Limoene and ending with Iso Eugenol. These are listed as “naturally occurring elements in essential oils” and I wanted to know more. This is what she had to say:

The constituents listed at the end of the label are naturally occurring in the essential oils in trace amounts and are not synthetic additives. In the EU, they require you to list all potential allergens (26 possible) that are naturally occurring within the plant essential oils. If you take out these components and add them to the formula singularly and or synthetically isolated (which they do in commercial perfumes and clinical skincare formulas) then you could be adding a harmful skin-sensitizing ingredient.

I am a certified aromatherapist and formulate with only 1% or less in our facial care products including the Jungle Glow Cleanser and Mask.

I also wanted to mention that Madame Fox hand blends each formula in micro batches to ensure purity, freshness and potency. All of her products are packaged in amethyst glass to protect the formula and extend shelf life.

Sidekick: Cleopatra Restorative Milk + Honey Beauty Mask

Cleopatra mask

Cleopatra is a BRAND NEW mask and Beauty Hero members will be the first to try it! This mask comes dry and you can mix a little water or your favorite hydrosol to activate the mask. It is formulated to soften, detoxify and tone skin with crushed rose petals, coconut milk, honey and French rose clay. It also has papaya and pineapple to exfoliate and superfruits camu camu and baobab to deliver antioxidants.

The Cleopatra Mask feels more like a traditional clay based mask and dries like one too, tightening and pulling gunk and dirt as it hardens. The beauty of this mask was not so much in the experience but in the aftermath. I applied a mist and a face oil after making and my skin just felt so….CLEAN. It felt really light and clean and like it could breathe again. Love the color of this mask too.

Use this alone or go crazy and try it mixed in with Jungle Glow!
