MADE SAFE + Annmarie Gianni Skin Care

So we know ideally we want to eat organic food because we want to avoid pesticides, chemical fertilizers, dyes, GMOs and more. But what do we do we look for when it comes to buying makeup, skincare and personal care products? Sometimes we will see a makeup and/or skincare brand that is certified organic which is great but heres the problem. Some ingredients in skincare, makeup and personal care items are impossible to certify and here’s why.

If a personal care product is made up of agricultural ingredients it may be certified under the National Organic Program (NOP) only if the agricultural ingredients, their handlers and manufactures are all certified by a USDA-accredited organic certifying agent says But agricultural ingredients are not the only ingredients in makeup, skincare and personal care so where do we go from there?

Certified MADE SAFE

Well let me introduce you to MADE SAFE. MADE SAFE is America’s first nontoxic certification for products we use everyday from baby to personal care to household and more. MADE SAFE promises that the products they certify are made with safe ingredients not known or suspected to harm human health. This is what the certification looks like:

Some brands that bare the MADE SAFE label are some of my faves like Hairprint, True Botanicals, Kosmatology and Pleni Naturals.

MADE SAFE + This Organic Girl

MADE SAFE reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in trying a new MADE SAFE product every few months and talking about it here on This Organic Girl and I was like SURE! I love what MADE SAFE is doing: raising awareness and cleaning up beauty aisles one product at a time. And I know you guys love having more same options to chose from so WIN WIN. First up? Annmarie Gianni Skin Care.

This month I was introduced to Annmarie Gianni Skin Care on behalf of MADE SAFE. Annmarie is the co-founder and co-creator, along with her husband Kevin, of their own skincare line. She and her her husband weren’t comfortable using what they was finding in the stores and set out to make something special. As they started working with chemists and formulators, one chemist told them that they could add a “a little unnatural preservative” to their formulas and not include it on the label as long as “it was under a certain amount.” (SO GROSS!) At this point they were on a mission to make a product that was spa quality, super clean, organic and affordable.

My first impression of this line is that it is super complex and it has a lot to offer. And what I mean is, I really enjoyed using Annmarie’s products initially – the scents, textures and experience were all enjoyable and relaxing. But that’s not the only thing Annmarie has to offer. Their products are formulated with mostly organic oils and botanicals that are selected to work with your skin. And when I say its complex, not only will they use organic aloe vera as an ingredient but that aloe will be infused with like 8 organic herbs – and that’s just ONE ingredient!

Something else I noticed that was super impressive is that I could layer serums and face oils without any buildup. My skin just took one dose after the next and actually asked for more. One night I ended up layering four treatments and my skin was not even greasy – it was incredible.

Oh and I almost forgot – the smell! Their entire line is like an aromatherapy session. Each product’s scent profile is so unique -some very very mild and some more potent. I am guessing she is a Sandalwood fan because (I am too!!!) it is a standout in several of her products – especially her Aging Facial Oil.

And lastly, because the Annmarie line is MADE SAFE Certified we have that extra assurance that this product is truly nontoxic.

The Goods
Annmarie Skincare

Check out the gorgeous box they sent. Just a note – these are all sample sizes (pictured) but I will list the full size price which is a lot bigger than what you see here. Except for the Wild Fruit Serum which IS full size.

Purifying Mud Mask: LOVED this mask! This is a clay mask that comes dry and you add a bit of water to active it. It is blended super fine so it goes on like silk. The color is a rich warm brown and it dries to a light sandy color. It feels cool applied with maybe the slightest bit of tingling. It dries like a clay mask – tightening and pulling along the way and in about 10-15 minutes it’s ready to be removed. The entire ingredient list is: rose clay, Moroccan rhassoul clay and chlorella algae – all wild crafted. Rhassoul clay is exclusive to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco and is rich in silica and magnesium. So you get a dose of magnesium here too!  $39.95

Ayurvedic Facial Scrub: This formula comes lose and dry and can be blended with water or a facial cleanser. Key ingredients are Moroccan rhassoul clay, fenugreek, rosemary and shavegrass and because it is dry it’s preservative free (along with everything else I tried!). Because this is a plant and clay based scrub, it is a very soft and gentle exfoliation – there is no abrasive grit to it – it becomes more like a thick paste before applying. $29.95

Annmarie Skincare

Aloe Herb Cleanser: Smells so good and works into a light milky foam to cleanse skin without drying it out. The organic aloe they use is infused with calendula, hyssop leaves, lavender, lemon balm, life everlasting flowers, neem and olive leaves (all organic). $54.95

Citrus Mint Cleanser: Lemon balm, rosemary, witch hazel and neem in a base of aloe vera and saponified coconut oils work to remove dirt and grime with out stripping skin of its protective barrier. $29.95

Rosemary Toning Mist: Um, if you like rosemary, get a load of this! Misting this over my face legit smells like I stuck my head into rosemary bush. It smells clean, raw and unadulterated and feels fantastic too. $32.95

Citrus Stem Cell Serum: This serum is made with citrus derived stem cells, uva ursi extract, licorice root extract and promises to increase the appearance of tightness and brighten lackluster skin. Again, SMELLS AMAZING with essential oils of rosemary, lavender and sandalwood.$62.95

Annmarie Skincare

Herbal Facial Oil for Normal & Combination Skin: A base of grapeseed oil is packed with active botanicals like tamanu, passion fruit seed and burti fruit to deliver essential nutrients for healthy skin. Soaks in before you can even say “organic face oil” and smells amazing – like a walk in the deep woods at dusk accompanied by the essence of a distant camp fire. $39.95

Anti-Aging Facial Oil: One look at this ingredient list and your chin will hit the floor. Super clean and jam packed with active botanicals. Chia, goji berry and broccoli oils firm and tighten while jojoba moisturizes. This one has sandalwood oil written all over it and is super fragrant. $54.95

Wild Fruit Serum: With organic extracts of Kakadu Plum, apple, knotweed and plant cells of Madonna Lily and Poet’s Narcissus this serum promises to brighten, hydrate and rejuvenate. This assimilates on impact and is super easy to layer plus with the addition of Sandalwood Seed Oil it smells amazing! $119

Until Next Time!

This was just a fantastic line to explore. I felt like every time I used it there was something new to discover. Stay tuned for more from MADE SAFE. We will be back with another band in a couple of months!

Have you tried anything from Annmarie Gianni?

Being new to “green beauty” and recently finding your blog, I was not aware of MADE SAFE or what it really means to be just certified organic… Thank you!

These look like lovely products at a reasonable price too! I actually have no idea if I like the scent of sandalwood or not – lol – guess I need to find out. 🙂

I meant to add they have a $10 starter kit that includes three sample sized items – a great way to try!
