Hey guys! I’m back again with MADE SAFE – this time featuring Rejuva Minerals. MADE SAFE is America’s first nontoxic certification for products we use everyday from baby to personal care to household and more. MADE SAFE promises that products they certify are made with safe ingredients. This means the ingredients used are not known or suspected to harm human health. I love this certification because it makes it easy for buyers to go into a store and be able to pinpoint a clean product instantly. In this day and age of gross capitalism, greenwashing and marketing tactics, it is a challenge to find nontoxic diamonds in the big box rough. MADE SAFE is here to be your guide.
If you have never seen the MADE SAFE certification before, this is what it looks like. If you see this anywhere on a product label you will know it has passed all of the MADE SAFE criteria.
MADE SAFE Certification Criteria
But what is the MADE SAFE certification criteria? Well, I talked to MADE SAFE to get a better understanding of what their screening process looks like and this is what they had to say:
The MADE SAFE seal is what we call a paper screening process, so we don’t lab test in this phase. We’re looking for known sources of contamination in ingredients that won’t appear on the label, known toxic chemicals listed on authoritative lists, and then working with a a chemist and using predictive modeling to examine ingredients for bioaccumulation, persistence, and general and aquatic toxicity. This makes the MADE SAFE seal the most rigorous standard on the market right now.
MADE SAFE currently has two distinguishing labels; MADE SAFE and MADE SAFE Nontoxic Certified. I asked for clarification on how these two differ and this is how MADE SAFE explained it:
MADE SAFE literally means “made with safe ingredients.” We’ve examined each ingredient in the product. MADE SAFE Nontoxic Certified mans a product as passed MADE SAFE and gone on to be lab tested as a whole to ensure the product isn’t toxic. This catches unknown sources of contamination and ingredients that MADE SAFE can’t. And it also looks at the whole mixture for how ingredients interact to verity the mixture as a whole is safe.
MADE SAFE Nontoxic Certified will be rolling out over the next couple of years so at this time when I am featuring products here I am talking about the MADE SAFE certification not the MADE SAFE Nontoxic Certification.

MADE SAFE + This Organic Girl
At the beginning of the year, MADE SAFE reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in trying a new MADE SAFE product every few months and talking about it here on This Organic Girl and I was like SURE! I love what MADE SAFE is doing: raising awareness and in turn, cleaning up beauty aisles one product at a time. And I know you guys love having more safe options to chose from so WIN WIN. This time around? Rejuva Minerals. And here’s a link if you missed my first MADE SAFE feature on Annemarie.
Rejuva Minerals was one of the very first lines to be MADE SAFE certified. They sent over the following goodies for me to try which are also gluten free and vegan.
- Natural Canceler
- Natural Look Pressed Power Foundation in Sea Shell and Glow
- Multi Task primer/finisher/dry shampoo
- A selection of USA made vegan brushes
Titanium Dioxide and Mica Free
Rejuva Minerals is made without the use of mica or titanium dioxide which are two heavily relied on ingredients in the nontoxic cosmetics realm. Both mica and titanium dioxide are generally considered safe for use in cosmetics. But two things come to mind about titanium dioxide. Nano vs. non-nano forms of titanium dioxide as will as topical application in the form of a liquid v. risk of inhalation in the form of a powder. Titanium dioxide has recently come into the spotlight as a toxin and potential carcinogen when used in nanoparticle form. This abstract by NIH points out:
- TiO2 nanoparticles predominantly cause adverse effects via induction of oxidative stress resulting in cell damage, genotixicity, inflammation, immune response etc.
- Based on experimental evidence from animal inhalation studies TiO2 are classified as “possible carcinogenic to humans” by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
The abstract concludes that “Until relevant toxicological and human exposure data, that would enable reliable risk assessment are obtained, TiO2 nanoparticles should be used with great care.”
And then there is the whole issue of what size is actually classified as “nano” – which seems to be a subjective measurement. But I digress. The point is you want to avoid titanium dioxide in power form because as a powder it is most likely nano and, in powder form, you also introduce the risk of breathing it in. SO all this to say; Rejuva is titanium dioxide free which is a huge bonus.
So not only are their ingredients thoughtful and nontoxic, their packing is too. Check it out:
- BPA free jars for loose power products that are composed of up to 95% recycled natural fibers that are also recyclable.
- Pressed power compacts are made from renewable vegetal resources and also biodegradable plus OGM, BPA, and phthalate-free.
- Boxes are made from 50% recycled materials.
Get To The Money!
And by “money” I mean “makeup” – So check out what their product looks on. I am wearing everything they sent here. Deets below.
Ultra Sheer Multi Task Powder $5.95
Their most interesting product is the Ultra Sheer Multi Task Power. This is a coco colored power that smells dang delicious – probably because the first ingredient is cacao shell powder. This powder is a taupey brown but totally goes on sheer. It can be used under or over makeup or as a dry shampoo. (A non-white dry shampoo!? Can I get a WHAT WHAT from all my dark haired beauties out there?!)
So, love this as dry shampoo for the hair line. You can apply it with a kabuki or foundation brush on your forehead to take away any shine and then continue to work it up into your hairline to eliminate any piecey greasy hair bits that start to stick together on day two or three. Check out how it eliminates shine on my forehead below. Left is bare and right is with the Ultra Sheer Multi Task Power applied. Same lighting, no touchups or filters. Can you see the difference?
Mineral Concealer Loose Powder $5.95
This can be applied under or over makeup to lighten any dark spots or discoloration. This is a loose powder that you apply with a concealer brush to spot treat. I have it on over some of my hyper-pigmentations and they definitely appear lighter.
Natural Look Pressed Foundation $10.95
Rejuva recommends applying this foundation dry with a brush. I love using their kabuki brush. You can apply a single coat for a light, even, sheer coverage or you can layer for more coverage. I love the dewy look of liquid foundation but I also love a matte finish too. This product is pretty much in-between. It’s not a powdery matte but more of a semi-matte as the powder foundation sort of assimilates/blends/melts into skin after it’s applied. I got to try Sea Shell and Glow. Sea Shell was a better color match for me. I have it on in the pics above.
USA MADE Vegan Brushes
These brushes are manufactured exclusively for Rejuva Minerals by an environmentally sensitive USA manufacturer who supports the fight againts animal testing. In addition, the brush handles come from managed wood reformed station programs.
Using brushes that were designed for specific applications totally changed my makeup game. Like, my makeup looks so much better and I get so much more out of it when I started using a kabuki brush to apply and blend foundation, an angled liner brush to line top and bottom lashes and a crease brush to apply eyeshadow in my crease. Seriously using the right tools will change your life. Consider vegan and USA made brushes. These are effective, I would rate them a 6.5 out of 10 on the softness scale (0 being soft and 10 being hard).
Check out Rejuiva Minerals on their website. They also have lipstick, lipgloss, eyeliners, shadows, mascara, blush, bronzer…This is an affordable line that is clean and MADE SAFE certified. Sounds like the holy grail to me! Have you tried Rejuva?
