When True Botanicals drops a new product, the world stops for a minute. Can I get a witness!? The latest? A trio of luxe essential oil blends they are calling The Aromatherapy Collection.

This collection is comprised of luxe, science-backed essential oil blends. They are specifically designed to address three problems that are more prevalent than any other in todays lifestyle: stress, muscle tension and the common cold. They are each sold separately so you can pick and choose which one is right for you.

Personally, we are fortunate in that my family does not get sick too often – knock on wood. But I am no stranger to stress and muscle tension. Two days ago I had 6 anxiety dreams in one night – who does that!?  So when this trio of glass rollerballs made their way into my home this past week, it’s fair to say I haven’t put them down since. Here’s a bit about each one.

Stress Relief

Stress Relief is such a beautiful, calming scent. It’s intended to be used to help bring the calm.  I love rolling it on the inside of my wrist and enjoying as needed. You can also roll it on your temples, chest, feet…It actually kind of doubles as a fragrance too which is super fun. Stress Relief is formulated with a few key ingredients to help calm:

• Tarragon: activates the parasympathetic nervous system eliciting feelings of calm.
• Frankincense: stabilizes mood and has a powerfully grounding effect.

Muscle Relief

Muscle Relief is a gem to have too. I always have neck pain which is why I see a chiropractor 1-2x a week. This mostly keeps it under control but when I sleep weird or take a new exercise class, it seems to flare up again. Muscle Relief is great for rolling on sore muscles or areas of tension. After it’s applied you can feel a slight warming/cooling sensation. Key oils include:

• Roman Chamomile: unwinds tight muscles, relaxes the body.
• Clary Sage: relieves inflammation, soothes aches.

Immune Boost

Immune Boost is designed to be used at the first signs of imbalance. Maybe a tickle in your throat, maybe brain fog, maybe you are just feeling tired. However if you are already under the weather you can use it to support recovery too. Roll this onto chest, throat and lymph below each ear. I would say the standout notes here are Cypress, Balsam Fir and Black Spruce. Here are some key oils in this blend:

• Ravintsara: stimulates immune system with antiviral and antibacterial properties.
• Bay Laurel: supports lymphatic drainage, acts as a natural expectorant.

What sets these blends apart

All of these blends are formulated in a base of organic coconut oil with whole essential oils. That’s it. No other fillers or preservatives. True Botanicals says this means that unlike many essential oils on the market, which are modified during processing, these ones are not. They are pure, closest in form to nature and super effective.

I had a couple of questions for True Botanicals about this…

Q: What is a whole essential oils exactly? 

A: When we use the term “whole essential oil” we mean that we use the pure natural aromatic essence distilled from the plant instead of an isolate. When you extract an essential oil you are extracting the entire scent complex compound. When you extract an isolate you are extracting a single scent molecule. Isolates don’t contain the same aromatherapeutic benefits of an essential oil, but they do impart fragrance.

Q: Some oils are organic and some are not, can you speak to this? 

A: We strive foremost for authenticity and quality and sometimes organic oils are not the best reflection of the plant. Also some oils are from plants in the wild in which case they are wild crafted not organic certified.

Q: Are these safe for children?

A: Our Aromatherapy products are therapeutic blends of essential oils at much higher concentrations than that of our skincare and body care collections. For that reason, we recommend asking your doctor or practitioner for their advice regarding the topical application of essential oils (during pregnancy, for children or other medical related inquiries).

Another thing that’s unique to these blends is they are all MADE SAFE Certified. Meaning they have been third party vetted for safety. Roughly speaking; What the USDA Organic seal is to lettuce, MADE SAFE is to skincare and makeup. I wrote more about MADE SAFE  here.

Which one to choose?

If you can only pick one, I would totally go with Stress Relief. First of all, the scent alone is amazing. It smells so beautiful like soft and clean with a little bit of spice. I can smell ylang ylang, cedarwood/sandalwood…maybe an essence of orange, maybe a tiny mint. But it’s refined and beautiful like a true fragrance blend. Not like Oh I mixed orange essential oil and sandalwood essential oil in some coconut oil and called it a day. I’m not lying when I say I’ve legit been wearing this all day, everyday since it arrived.

However, while Stress Relief is a total two-in-one, I wouldn’t feel drawn to wear Muscle Tension or Immune Boost as a fragrance like I would with Stress Relief. They both smell beautiful too – just not in a I want to wear this as a perfume sort of way.

Beyond luxe packaging

Okay my very first impression was WOW, I LOVE THIS PACKAGING. These blends are bottled in a clear glass tube with a glass rollerball and adorned with a heavy metal embossed twist cap. I love that it’s clear glass because you can enjoy the color of these blends but you can also see how much you have left. In addition, the labeling and typography is chic, sleek and refined. Nothing short of highbrow here friends.
