Speaking of Valentine’s Day, you know that feeling you got when you met the person you were going to marry? It’s pretty much like that feeling when you get paid + have a girls night out + have best outfit to wear + you found a hundred dollars. And if none of that rings a bell it’s kinda like finding organic grapes in the winter or a nut bar with no nuts. Like crazy good – so much so that your heart skips a beat and you get a little frightened that you may pee your pants in excitement and awe. Welp, meet Leahlani Skincare.
This is totally the feeling I got when I had the honor of trying a few products from Leahlani Skincare. Let me tell you all about it!
Leahlani Skincare is based out of Kauai, Hawaii and came to life when founder Leah was struggling with cystic acne over 10 years ago. She recognized that her body was out of balance and set out on quest to find healing. Though this journey she discovered holistic skincare and was inspired to create a line that would “transform a routine into ritual”.
Well friends she did it because I can’t stop reaching for her products. With a mix of organic botanicals and clays, tropical fruits and pure organic Hawaiian nectars – Leahlanis got my prana doing The Cabbage Patch! No? Okay well maybe for you it’s the Electric Slide or the Mashed Potato but whatever it is trust me you will not be able to contain your excitement over this brand!
Bless Beauty Balm and Meli Glow
Okay first up is Leahlani’s Bless Beauty Balm. It is a pink moisture melt made with organic butters and exotic oils that can be used as a moisturizer or a makeup remover (although there is no way I am wasting it on makeup removal – too good!) I have been putting this on at night and I wake up with baby soft skin it is RIDICULOUS. Like it literally feels like I am applying a sheet of water over my face before going to bed at night and my skin has totally taken to it. Perfect for these dry winters. I have also been using it as a spot treatment for any dry patches – around my nose or in between my eyes or just straight up as a balm for my lips. Oh and all of Leah’s formulas smell AMAZING with this one being no exception. Like orange blossoms and florals. Beautiful.
Also shown above is her Meli GLOW mask – great for all skin types but especially for dry, combo and mature skin. This mask is a honey based mask and again SMELLS AMAZING. It also has exotic fruits, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and stimulating clays. This is one of those masks I could leave on all day – it goes on thick and sits bringing moisture and nourishment while plumping cells, exfoliating, stimulating circulation and promoting even skin tone. Which means when you take this mask off, get ready for a skin tone overhaul and a radiant glow.
Okay I gotta say, Kokoleka is one of my favorite masks of all time! It is a superfood dessert mask that comes dry and you can mix it with a liquid of your choice before applying. Think not only water but hydrosols, rose water, or your fave toner – the possibilities are endless! The other great part about this formula is because it is packaged dry, there is no need to include a preservative – even better!
Packed all the way to the brim and smelling of cocoa, Kokoaleka’s ingredients here are so real and unique, I gotta share: organic cocoa powder, organic bohemian black fango, organic coconut milk, organic wildcrafted acai fruit, organic colloidal oatmeal, rose clay, organic aloe leaf, molokai black sea salt, activated coconut charcoal, vanilla bean supercritical CO2, cocoa bean supercritical CO2, ginger root supercritical CO2, (essential oils of orange peel, mandarin pee,l lemon peel, lime peel, ylang ylang, lavender, rose geranium, clary sage leaf, rose) cocoa bean absolute, vanilla absolute, coffee fruit oil.
And if you are new to “supercritical CO2” extraction, let me fill you in. This is just one way that you can extract oils/extracts/absolutes from seeds/flowers/fruits etc. Other extraction methods include solvent extraction, steam distillation, cold expression, molecular distillation and poroplast extraction. Some methods are cleaner than others with CO2 extraction being one of the cleanest.
This is how it works: When CO2 is held at or just above it’s critical temps/pressures, a supercritical fluid CO2 results that can be used as an effective solvent to extract the aroma as well as the biological components of herbs, seeds and flowers. The beauty of this process is that once the extract is allowed to return to its normal temps/pressure, the CO2 converts into a gas and bubbles out of the extract leaving the oils behind with no solvent residue. (source)
This method of extraction has so many pros: the final product is most similar in profile to the raw botanical, no heat is involved, no chemical residues and the product has a better shelf life because naturally occurring antioxidants are left in tact. (source)
Kokoleka is a clean formula and you can literally feel the difference on your face. After the mask goes on, you can feel it tighten as it dries on your face – there is absolutely no tingling or burning. You can just feel it drying. After leaving it on for about 10-15 minutes it will be fully dry and you can remove it with warm water and a wash cloth. After this, skin feels SO SMOOTH and you can literally see the circulation return to your face. It’s like that “after workout” glow. Great for detoxifying, a deep cleanse and total skin revitalization.
And last but OH MY GOSH NOT LEAST are Leah’s morning and evening elixirs. These elixirs have literally changed my skincare routine. You know how sometimes you just get lazy or go to bed too late or whatever the excuse is you just don’t prioritize washing your face? I mean it’s happened to the best of us. Well, one whiff of either of these elixirs and you will be hooked – like a moth to a flame – you will be jonsing for a nightly face wash.
Mahina Evening Replenishing Elixir smells soooooo good. Like in the most botanical way possible is smells like Applitinis, Skittles and oranges. It is literally to. die. for. Check out these ingredients:
organic cold pressed moringa oil, organic cold pressed marula oil. organic cold pressed chia seed oil, organic virgin prickly pear seed oil, organic cold pressed carrot seed oil, organic cold pressed watermelon seed oil, organic starflower oil, organic cold pressed meadowfoam seed oil, organic tahitian vanilla bean, organic ugandan vanilla bean organic mexican vanilla bean and essential oils
I mean seriously though, can you even believe these ingredients!? I especially love the addition of Prickly Pear – I first ran into this ingredient last year when I was trying MŪN’s Brightening Youth Serum which totally rocked my world – applying Prickly Pear to your face is like giving your skin water injections, crazy hydrating! These ingredients though, take it from me, it does not get better than this. Leahlani is the real deal from her product ingredients, to her formulations to her product performance. Two thumbs up and an A+.
Two pumps of Mahina applied to my face and neck before I hit the sack nightly has made my skin softer, brighter and totally increased hydration – you gotta try this!
Follow this up with Leah’s Aloha Ambrosia Morning Moisture Elixir and call it a day! The ingredients here are just as good. We are seeing organic acerola cherry oil, organic aloe, organic mangosteen oil and more. Full of natural antioxidants to get you through the day, this lightweight daily skin elixir absorbs quickly and leaves skin nourished and radiant. And this smells so beautiful like powdery florals.
Don’t take my word for it
I mean the only real answer here is to try it for yourself. Trust me, best decision of 2017 is just one click away. If you can splurge on all of these, you’ve got it made but if you are looking to start with one, go with the Kokoleka Mask if you are looking for a mask and the Mahina Evening Replenishing Elixir if you are looking for a moisturizer. And tell Leah I sent you!
